Joseph Kabila Speech
"Congolese men and women, dear fellow countrymen. Tragic circumstances have
led to the unexpected death of the president of the republic, head of state, and
head of government, Mzee Laurent-Desire Kabila. These circumstances leave
uncompleted the very exalting task of reconstruction and consolidation of the
Congolese nation. The sordid assassination of the head of state has led to the
duties of president to be bestowed upon me at a time when the nation, torn by
war, still needed the services of the distinguished departed."
This was the opening to Joseph Kabila’s speech, the current president of
Congo, on January 26, 2001 regarding what he will work for to change in the
country being the new president. He also speaks on behalf of his father‘s death,
Laurent Disire Kabila and how he will try to help fill the gap that was left
upon his death. In addition, Joseph talks about the steps he’s going to take in
order to reach peace throughout Congo. One step was the removal of Rwandan,
Burundian, and Ugandan influence in Congo. This will help them limit the amount
of conflicts and wars among enemy tribes. Joseph carries on to talk about
creating a more effective economy, improving relationships with outside countries, making a stronger army and police force, and ends his speech speaking to the people of Congo who live in occupied territories and how he will try to
help them. All these steps are ways that he will try to improve, ultimately making Congo more unified and safer. Joseph speaks to all the citizens of Congo to inform them of his intentions and that they made the correct choice in voting
for him as president. His goal is to rally the support of the people, and create a strong country with better living conditions. This speech is important because it lets people know how they are trying to fix Congo. It also explains the major
conflicts and what needs to be done to fix them. With help from other countries, Congo has a chance to become a strong, unified country.
