Leadership
Leadership-
One of the major problems with leadership in the Democratic Republic of Congo is that there is none. This country has suffered from a severe lack of leadership sine it left Belgian rule back in the 1960s. When it first became a country Patrice Lumumba was named Prime minister of the country, however within three months he was assassinated by rebels. Within a few years Mobutu Sese Seko came to power in a coup, and attempted to rid the country of all outside influence. Mobutu ruled for more than thirty years but in the 1990s he was overthrown by anti-Mobutu rebels. Laurent Kabila came to power after this and began to purge a Tutsi from the government. By 2001, Kabila was then assassinated and then succeeded by his son. Throughout the next decade renegade leader Laurent Nkunda and his rebel army would clash with soldiers of the Democratic Republic of Congo. All of this conflict has made it near impossible for leaders of this country to do the country any good, and it has taken until now for the country to finally begin to settle down.
