Sexual Violence-
Another major problem has been sexual violence throughout the country. While the war is formally over, many have suffered from sexual violence. Women and men alike have suffered from sexual abuse including, rape, sexual humiliation, and genital mutilation. All armed groups that have been involved in the war have been known to commit some form of sexual violence, and it still occurs even now. It is known to be the most widespread crime in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Many of the victims of these crimes suffer long-term physical and psychological health problems. Many also have to overcome the enormous barrier in securing justice. Most of these victims suffer in silence, despite there being an estimated forty rapes every day in the country.
