Shaloon Center for Kids
"My twin babies were very small and skinny, certainly because my breast milk is not enough to feed them both. I stopped breastfeeding when they reached a year, they are three now and look like they are one year old."
This is what one mother whose children were undergoing treatment at the center told people from the Organization UNICEF, who put it in an article on their website. UNICEF is an organization dedicated to helping countries in need. One of their large efforts is the Shaloon center in Congo which they support. This center is focused on reducing child mortality by two-thirds by 2015. From 2004 to 2007 over 188,000 kids were treated across Congo is 168 UNICEF supported facilities like the Shaloon center. The awful conditions of roads and cities in Congo makes it difficult for women to bring their kids to the centers. The constant wars and fights against each other and for control of the government make it difficult for the country to operate, though. The UNICEF website reaches out to all Americans getting thousands to support and donate to them. They primarily try to get donations and volunteers to help out in poor countries to make a difference in the world. Even though this statement by the women is small, it’s important because it shows how women desperately want their kids to be well fed and safe, but living in Congo makes it very difficult for them.
